The bike station is gone, but the address still matters. Riders, drivers and tourists keep searching for it. Here is exactly where it stood, the hours it kept, and how to reach Millennium Park today. The full story is in the station’s history, and the Station hub holds the rest of the archive.

Where it stood

The station was at 239 East Randolph Street, at Columbus Drive.1 It occupied the northeast corner of the park, near the intersection of Randolph Street and Columbus Drive.6 In 2006 the station’s own page gave the same spot a landmark: by Michigan and Randolph, across from the former Amoco Building, at Upper Randolph Street on the northeast corner of Millennium Park.5

Millennium Park’s own address is 201 E. Randolph St.3 The park fronts Michigan Avenue and is bordered by Randolph Street to the north, Columbus Drive to the east and Monroe Street to the south.4

Most cyclists reached the station by way of multilane Michigan Avenue and Randolph Street.2 Cyclists could also walk their bikes up and over the 940-foot BP Bridge, designed by Frank Gehry. Riding on it was not allowed.6

Why the corner worked

The corner tied the station to rail. It offered connections to the Chicago Transit Authority hub, the McCormick Place Busway and Metra trains at Millennium Station.1 A glass supplier’s case study put it within a short walk of the South Shore terminal and noted that Metra’s Randolph Street station and the busway connect directly to the park.6 The idea was plain: take a train into town, pick up your bike at the station and ride the rest of the way to work.6

Hours it kept

In 2006 the station posted seasonal hours. Members had 24-hour access.5

Season in 2006 Monday to Friday Saturday and Sunday
Spring and fall, 2006 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.5
Summer, 2006 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.5
Winter, 2006 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Closed5

When Hub312 reopened the station in 2021, its hours were 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. from March 1 to October 31 and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. the rest of the year.7 The 2021 facility had 244 indoor bike parking spaces, 100 outdoor spaces and 92 lockers on the lower level.7 Hub312 offered $15 day passes, $50 monthly memberships and $250 annual memberships in 2021.7

The station closed at 5 p.m. on September 30, 2022.8 It did not reopen as a public station, and the Chicago Police Department Bicycle Patrol now occupies the building.2

Event days

In 2006 the station ran free valet bicycle parking during the summer performances at Millennium Park and the festivals at Grant Park.9 The Chase Bike Valet at Lake Shore Drive and Monroe Street, one block east of the park, complemented the station.1
