Editorial policy

Our standard

Every number, date, price and rule carries a numbered note linking to its source. Laws come only from government pages. Facts from the old station website carry their year and are never presented as current.

Source order

  1. Laws, fines and transit rules: Illinois statute (ilga.gov), the Chicago Municipal Code, the City of Chicago, the CTA, Metra and the Chicago Park District. Marked GOV.
  2. Prices and opening details: the operator's own page, with the date we read it. Marked OPERATOR.
  3. Routes, history and context: government pages, reference works, the Active Transportation Alliance and established press.
  4. Station history: the Millennium Park bike station's own published pages (2004–2014), read from the Internet Archive. Marked ARCHIVE 2004–14; every such claim names its year.

How notes work

A small red number after a sentence jumps to the Sources list at the bottom of the page. Each note shows who published the source, its domain and the date we checked it.

What we leave out

If a fact has no source we can link, it is not published. We do not write as if we rode a route we did not ride, and we do not pass on forum rumours as law.

Who writes the guide

Pages are researched, written and checked by the chicagobikestation.com editors. Each page shows the date it was last checked and the main source it was checked against. Operators cannot pay to change what a page says.

Corrections

Each page shows its last check. If you spot an error, see Corrections.
