Divvy downtown

Divvy is the city-owned bike and scooter system7. Lyft operates it under contract7. The system had more than 17,000 bikes and 950 docking stations as of June 20247. It runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year10.

Pay as you go, or buy a pass4:

  • Single ride: $1 to unlock plus $0.20 a minute on a classic bike4.
  • Day pass: $19.90 for 24 hours of unlimited 3-hour rides on classic bikes5.
  • Annual membership: $143.90 a year for unlimited 45-minute classic-bike rides5.

Classic bikes start and end at classic docking stations7. E-bikes give electric assist while you pedal, with a 20 mph top speed7. A single e-bike ride costs $1 to unlock plus $0.44 a minute4.

Near Navy Pier, the Divvy station and kiosk sits in Polk Bros Park, on the northwest corner of Streeter and Grand8. Day passes are sold there and at any Divvy kiosk8. Two nearby stations stand at Streeter Dr and Grand Ave and at Lakeshore Dr and Ohio St11. More on the pier in bike rental at Navy Pier.

Shop or Divvy

A Divvy day pass at $19.90 costs about half a shop’s full-day comfort hybrid at $39.994,3. The pass fits a day of short trips between stops. A shop bike fits a long ride, and classic Divvy bikes must be docked at a classic station7. For a ride up the Lakefront Trail, a shop bike is the simpler choice. Compare costs in Divvy vs a bike rental shop and bike rental cost in Chicago.

What the old station charged

In its 2004–2014 years the Millennium Park bike station, at 239 East Randolph Street, rented bikes from a posted price list9,12. That list put a comfort bike at $12.50 an hour, $35 for a half day and $39 for a full day12. Helmets, locks and trail maps were included12. The facility closed on September 30, 2022, and in March 2023 it was confirmed that it would become a police-only facility9. The full account is in the station history.
