A food bike tour spends the calories it sells. You ride between stops, and each stop is a plate. Bobby’s Bike Hike runs Chicago’s food bike tours: a classic, a West Side tasting and a family version. The classic and the West Side tour leave from the same headquarters1,3. For tours without food, see Bike Tours.

Bikes, Bites & Views

This is the signature tour. It samples from what Bobby’s calls Chicago’s four favorite food groups: pizza, hot dogs, brownies and beer, with the beer reserved for the VIP add-on1. Both departures include deep-dish pizza, Chicago hot dogs, other local samples and dessert1.

The day tour rides the North Side: the Gold Coast, Old Town, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wrigleyville and the lakefront1. The evening tour covers the same foods but stays downtown, through the Gold Coast, River North, the Riverwalk, Millennium Park and Buckingham Fountain1.

The ride finishes back at headquarters after about four and a half hours and 13 miles1. Expect it to run 15 to 30 minutes either side of schedule1. Riders must be 16 or older1. Adults 21 and over can add craft beer tastings for $19.99 per person; bring ID1. The e-bike upgrade costs $29.991.

What you eat, and why

Deep-dish pizza was invented at Pizzeria Uno in Chicago, founded by Ike Sewell and Richard Riccardo in 19435. The Chicago dog is an all-beef frankfurter on a poppy seed bun with yellow mustard, onion, relish, a pickle spear, tomato, sport peppers and celery salt6. Vienna Beef’s canonical recipe omits ketchup6. The full assembly is said to be dragged through the garden, for its vegetables6.

Westside Foodie Ride

The tour runs through neighborhoods west of downtown and tells the city’s immigrant history through food3. It is the adult tour: riders must be 21 or older3. The listed length is 12 miles and four hours3.

The stops run in order:

  1. Fulton Market, for Roman al taglio-style pizza3.
  2. Ukrainian Village, for three different Polish pierogi3. The neighborhood lies between Division Street and Grand Avenue, with Western Avenue on its west edge7.
  3. Wicker Park, for a taco recently ranked among the 50 best tacos in America3.
  4. Bucktown, for a stop at Maison Parisienne3.
  5. Old Town, for a chocolatier’s drinking chocolate3.

The route returns along the lakefront3. A VIP alcohol pairing costs $9.99, and the e-bike upgrade $29.993. Bring a bottle of water, because not every restaurant serves it3. The tour runs snow, rain or shine3.

Family & Food

The Family & Food tour is easy, covers 9 miles in four hours and takes riders from age 14. It serves a Chicago-style hot dog, deep-dish pizza and dessert4. The family bike tour guide covers the child equipment and the route in full.

On foot instead

Bobby’s also runs walking food tours. The Chicago Favorites Walking & Food Tour takes three hours, with departures at 11:30am and 5:30pm daily, from $74.992. The Chinatown Food & Culture Walking Tour is three hours from $79.992.

Before you book

  • Bring ID. Adults 21 and over need it for beer; the West Side tour asks everyone to bring ID1,3.
  • Tell them about diets. Vegetarian options are available, but restricted diets or changes to the menu can add cost1.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early1.
  • Choose the evening departure to stay downtown. The 5:30pm Bikes, Bites & Views keeps to the city attractions1. For a ride built around the dark, see the night bike tour guide.
